I would like to make a confession to ya’ll…
I haven’t been wearing sunscreen. Please don’t tell my dermatologist… or my primary care physician. And it’s not because I don’ believe literally anyone who tells me that I should wear sunscreen, because I believe the science! I truly do! But…. But…
And what makes matters worse is that I’ve picked up a new sport, padel. It’s great, I love it so much. Butttttt it’s mostly played outside, especially in the summer and I just can’t bring myself to wear the damn sunscreen.
Maybe because it feels like it’s one more thing that I have to do before I can get out of the house. And my mind is so anxious these days… parenthood is not for the weak of heart. I’ve recently learned that my kiddo was doing terribly in daycare. Like really bad behavior. So, thankfully to my partner who has awesome insurance, we put him immediately into occupational therapy. And because the need was so big, we started with weekly sessions. All on Mondays.
Let me tell you a little secret. Ever since becoming a parent and my kiddo got old enough to go to daycare, I LOVE Mondays. Capitol L-O-V-E Mondays.
I work from home, so when everyone leaves the house, I can do the weekly reset. Cleaning the bathrooms, mopping the floors, taking our all the trash. Clearing the recyclables, cleaning the baseboards… all this stuff gets done on Mondays. Then comes the bliss. I am at home, in a clean home, ALL BY MYSELF. That and my kitty. Noone is talking to me, noone is touching me, noone is making any noise whatsoever. It’s literally the best feeling ever. Especially since my mind usually feels so loud, with an ever long list cycling through my mind-eye at all the things I gotta get done (including the sunscreen).

But Mondays? A clean house, a yummy lunch, a productive day. And then padel! Friends just before I pick up my kiddo. And easily schedule booked with padel booking software, and I can breathe. I can breathe, I can be me, I can regulate my body, I can sweat and learn something new!
But recently my sunspots seem to be more prominent. I have a new one on my face and it’s in the shape of a small heart. I also have two very faint ones on my hands. And I don’t know how to feel about this, because honestly I really love how an aged face looks. I’ve always thought that there is beauty in old age and now my body is gradually changing into this new ideal. And it’s weird. I still feel twenty-something. Or maybe a early thirty-something. But I’m far removed from those decades. I have way more grey hair than ever before (I’ve stopped plucking them out!). and the wrinkles don’t disappear with the good plumping serum any more. And I know I should wear sunscreen, it’ll help with appearance and aging. Maybe I’ll remember or next week’s game…
